A Word from Our Pastor….

“I am confident of this, that God, who began a good work among you, will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

Our prayer triplets are underway. As of now, the five groups (17 people) should have each met twice.      As I stated in my attempts to garner more participation in the triplets, this study focuses upon church growth. The triplets are going to be engaged in great reading, discussions, and prayer concerning church growth- not just any church’s growth, but ours! Just to get some others who are not participating in prayer triplets to begin to think about church growth too, I am going to take this month and next to share with you some information about how to be Guest Friendly.

We are a friendly church.  And, we want to maintain that, especially as we begin to intentionally focus on inviting others to our church. Statistics show that more people attend a new church and eventually join a church more as a result of being invited by a friend or neighbor than by any other way. You will hear more about church growth and inviting others to church when our prayer triplets finish their work. For now, read these as they relate to FCC. Can you play a part?

These are pulled from a few sources. They reflect a “checklist” for Guest Friendly Churches.

1.       Invite:  be specific in inviting.  As sign that says: “Everyone’s Welcome” means little because few people believe it is really true.  Invite to specific event, talk about who you welcome and to what.

2.       Signs: have plenty of directional signs on the property both inside and outside…especially for things like bathrooms, nursery, sanctuary, children’s classrooms.

3.       One-Sheets: have information sheets that talk about various facets of the church and that help bring outsiders into the loop (e.g. outreach, education efforts, children’s program, beliefs).

4.       Clean: make sure that the facilities and property is clean, especially the restrooms, the nursery, and the children’s areas.  Also watch for leaf, limbs or dirt built up around the facility and parking.

5.       Greeters Inside: selected people who have the gift of hospitality and train them to watch for guest.

6.       Be like them: show guests that there are people ‘like them’ here.  Have kids greet or young parents as well as senior adults and youth.  Have pictures up of the different groups.  Have information on various programs.  Make it obvious all the groups that you minister to or else you send a message that they don’t belong.

7.       Anticipate Needs: look for ways to make the experience great for guests and members.  Don’t just allow them in, but prepare for them to come (e.g. put nail files and small lotion bottles in bathrooms, children’s crafts for worship).

8.       Truly Care for them: be interested in those who come, not for what they can do for you but because they are important to Christ.  Focus on meeting their needs and not you own (e.g. survivor, comfort).

Come, follow Jesus with me,

Rev. Susan Lassalle

A Note From the Board…
Vice Chair Jamie Killian

I would like to remind everyone about the upcoming garage sale on June 2nd. Please donate anything that is sellable and in good condition. Please do not bring any junk items or random things laying around that you want to get rid of.  We are looking to raise money for a good cause and want to represent our church. Remember this is open to the public so people from our community will show up to look for deals.  If you feel that your item is of value please tell us what you think it is worth as a used resale item so we can get a fair price for it. Anyone is welcome to help out.

Jamie Killian, Board Vice Chair.
