                January 2012
Jesus said, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”  Mark 8:34

Over and over again in the gospels, we hear Jesus telling people to follow him. Isn’t it interesting that Jesus does not tell people to believe in him, to uphold creeds, to cling to doctrines, but to follow him? Obviously, following Jesus was important to Jesus. Thus, for us who call ourselves Christians, we too should make following Jesus a priority in our lives.
We should be as Philip and Simon and Andrew and Levi, among others, who when Jesus said, “Follow me,” got up and followed. Their lives were never the same from the day they stepped out and followed. And, followers of Jesus, our lives will not be the same either.
Indeed this idea relates to us as church too. We, as a church, as disciples of Jesus, should be following him diligently, obediently, sincerely, lovingly, joyfully, and faithfully. As we look ahead into the promise of another year of ministry and service together, let us make a renewed commitment to be followers of Jesus- both personally and as his church here in our community.
What might this look for us as we live into 2012? What things need more or less attention? What needs to change? What needs to be instituted? What needs to go? How can we more faithfully follow Jesus into 2012? What more can we do let our community know that we are joyful followers of Jesus? What does Jesus’ life and ministry and teaching have to say to us anew as we endeavor to follow him more closely, more genuinely, more lovingly?
These are my thoughts as we enter this new year. These thoughts will be heard more through the messages in the beginning of 2012. I invite you to take some time at the beginning of this year to think on these things as well.  Friends, let’s make 2012 a year where our commitment to follow Jesus outpaces all of our other commitments!
                Following Jesus with you,
                Rev. Susan Lassalle

                Meet the Board
The operation of our Church breaks down to the Spiritual side, administered by the Pastor, and the business side administered by the Board, made up of lay persons of the church.

A Note From the Board… Vice Chair Jamie Killian
                A Christian New Year
Did you stay committed to your New Year’s resolution? Did you start your resolution only to see your devotion to changes wither away? Lots of Christians start their spiritual lives that way. They are committed to change, devoted to a cause only to slip back into a life of repeat disappointment. Change is never easy; it’s never any fun and always full of challenges. Instead of committing yourself to a hard to achieve goal, because let’s face the truth no one devotes a year to a goal they do not want anyway; try to achieve one simple goal that anyone can do. It doesn’t require a membership fee; it doesn’t ask you to give up your favorite food, and you do not need to save money or spend time planning.
Instead make one little change this year. This year make your resolution to “love more.” Just think how our community of faith would be if everyone involved loves more and cares for each other just a little extra. However, this would require more patience and understanding from all of us. We can all benefit from this. This simple resolution, if executed properly, could have far reaching impact to the people both within and outside of our lives. I ask that all of our members to consider this Christian New Year resolution.
                Happy New Year.
                Jamie Killian, Board Vice Chair
